| With the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition (ASNRDA) decision to pursue the Program Executive Office (PEO) Integrated Warfare Systems (IWS) Open Architecture (OA) program as a Navy enterprise-wide approach, many programs have been struggling to determine how OA will affect their platforms. Within Naval Aviation, the E- 2C Hawkeye is the most visible platform to the shipboard Navy and is the initial air platform targeted for OA incorporation. This presentation will discuss the technical issues faced by this legacy platform, or any of our Naval Aviation platforms, with an existing hardware/software architecture, to incorporate this enterprise-wide approach. The present version of the E- 2C is the Hawkeye 2000 with the next generation system, the Advanced Hawkeye, just starting its development. Hawkeye 2000 will be the entry point for incorporating OA functionality and will be the focus of the Open Architecture Functional Architecture (OAFA) discussions. Open Architecture Computing Environment (OACE) will be presented for both generations. | |
