Continuous Appraisal Method (CAM) at the Age of 5

Wednesday
Presentation

Since the Continuous Appraisal Method (CAM) was conceived in 1999, it has matured significantly, with 19 deployments to date. CAM's breadth of application, implementation rigor, and the robustness of its product suite exemplify its maturation. Originally developed for use with ElA/731, CAM was evolved for Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) in 2001, and is currently being extended for appraisal against Lockheed Martin's Integrated Engineering Process (LM-IEP) standard. Concurrent with CAM's extension for use with CMMI was a rigorous mapping of the method to the Assessment Requirements for CMMI (ARC), Version 1.1 to ensure that all of the Class A requirements were met. As a result of extensive use of the method and feedback from stakeholders, including customers, CAM's product suite has been signigificantly improved.

Through its maturation, CAM's fundamental premise has changed; dovetailing process appraisal with process improvement is an effective and efficient means for continuous process improvement as well as for transitioning to new appraisal reference models and standards.
