Dr. Marvin R. Sambur

Dr. Marvin R. Sambur served as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition from 2001 to 2005 where he was responsible for all Air Force research, development and acquisition activities. This responsibility included the direction of a $37 billion annual procurement budget that included major programs like the F/A-22, F-35 (JSF), C-17 and munitions, as well as capability areas such as information technology (IT) and command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems. He was also responsible for formulating and executing the $220 billion Air Force investment strategy to acquire systems and support services to provide combat capability to joint warfighting commanders.

Sambur has more than 30 years of experience in high technology program acquisition, management and engineering. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary, Sambur was the President and Chief Executive Officer of ITT Defense, responsible for the management of ITT's $1.5 billion defense sector. Presently, he is a member of the Air Force's Scientific Advisory Board and the Air Force's Science and Technology Board. He has also formed his own consulting company, Raptors.

Sambur has a PhD in electrical engineering from MIT.
